Technology

Avālence is a technology-driven company. The Hydrofiller – a disruptive technology advance - was developed by a team steeped in 150+ years of engineering design expertise and a culture infused with hands-on design-and-build know how.

The Avālence Hydrofiller technology value proposition:

  • Produce ultra-high pressure (over 5,000 psi) hydrogen directly in the electrolysis cells
  • Series/parallel configuration flexibility in renewable applications
  • Inexpensive electrode and separation membrane materials
Avālence has validated direct pressurization in laboratory testing to 10,000 psi, and operating at 2,000 psi (5,000 hours) and 2,500 psi (400 hours). Additionally, an alpha unit designed for 6,500 psi has undergone extensive factory testing. Third-party verification of the technology has been performed.

Avālence has a process patent pending. A schematic of the process integrated with solar photovoltaic arrays is outlined below.

Avālence is also committed to ongoing research and development, conducting parallel programs sponsored by both DOE and commercial clients working to advance the hydrogen market and its applications. Specific ongoing developments include 10,000 psi and 300 kg/day hydrogen generators.

A white paper authored by Avālence addressing the “Results Summary of High Pressure and PV Integration Testing” reporting the results of a 2004 Department of Energy research grant is available upon request.

Avālence's leading-edge technical experts specialize in chemical and mechanical engineering, process controls and computer science. Management has a systems integration approach and is committed to rigorous development, performance testing, documentation and quality standards. Our commitment to technological leadership informs every decision we make.

Avālence actively seeks strategic partners and outsource partners to complement its competitive technology advantage and to carefully manage and protect its intellectual property throughout the development and commercialization process.
